Day 16
Project Reverb prompt: “There’s the old saying that a photo is worth 1,000 words. Give us a photo with that impact that sums up some significant event of your 2014, or give us 1,000 words about a pivotal moment in 2014.â€
I do not have the time for 1,000 words this holiday week! Yikes. And how can one picture sum up a year?
Well, here is possibly the best I can do. It is a memory of Fayetteville I’ll want to keep forever. There is so much to love about this little town, this place I grew up and we brought Bean back to grow up a bit too. We’ll be leaving in 2015 if everything goes according to plan. This time, rather than running away like I did when I was in my early 20s, in anger– we’ll be leaving behind good and bad memories, happy and sad times and a lot of love. But we’ll also be taking all that with us. I’ve learned a lot from the town I grew up in–modifies some memories, validated some others. Lost some relationships, gained some beautiful friendships and strengthened lifelong ones too. E had some tough times with bullying and an overly regimented school system but found her footing these last two years in great school we’ll be sad to leave. J even found a few friends, though he never did settle in. And it was life. Just how life is.
Reverb14 prompt: “Like many folks, I picture myself as a modern day Wonder Woman, trying to use my superpowers, to do lists and pure force to get what I want. In 2014, I found that my effort wasn’t often tied to my desired outcomes — except when it was. In 2015, is there something you’d like to try harder at because you believe it would make all the difference? Conversely, what is something you could stop trying so hard at that might actually help you manifest what you’d like?â€
I’m going to try very VERY hard not to be taken advantage of in 2015. I love to help wherever, however I can but somehow there has to be a better balance and I need to find groups/causes that expect to be a part of my life, not a CONSUMING part.
Also …I’m through being a change agent. That is code for ‘you fix it and then we hate you.’
I’d just like to show up and do a good job.
When we move I’m going to change how I volunteer–from using the skills I have from work to nurturing people/animals. Once we are settled, I’m going to find out how to do hospice volunteering. I thought about starting it while we are still in Fayetteville, but getting ready to move across the country is pretty consuming.
