What a house. Turns out they’re doing OK, the Malfoy’s. However, the interior decorating leaves a lot to be desired. And needless to say, Voldemort isn’t the greatest houseguest. Tom Felton

So is it just me or is there just not as much cool stuff at Target this year…and last. Don’t get me wrong, I love Target Halloween. Seriously. Not so much the costumes but the home décor—the plates, the cups the serving bowls. And the towels. I think I only have Halloween hand towels.

Also the signage and statuary. Not too expensive and it lasts really well for the most part.

But this year, as with last it seems like, even though they put the display up in September it’s just not *all there*

In 2007 they had Edgar and Ellen, which I liked and the statuary, household décor items –pretty darn nice.. Here’s a good entry at the time from Branded in the 80s. We still have a skull in bell jar and several tombstones from that year. There’s also a good punch bowl and skull candy dish—oh and that spider we’ve just never taken down in the kitchen.

See that’s the thing—and hopefully the topic of the upcoming weekend entry movie—we decorate for Halloween each year and then um…don’t take everything down. It’s pretty much looking like Halloween exploded all over our house and we never bothered to clean up the gore.

Hee

Target 2008, aside from Domukun as the mascot had more of the same. It was still good but inconsistent. I’m pretty sure that they had more extensive displays, household décor and other decorations previous to 2007. Am I wrong? I know somewhere before 2007 we got that light up graveyard arch we still use part of in our display—though just the arch—the bottoms fell apart long ago.

Looking back over the offerings I did just realize the Grandin Road giant skull planter (we fill it with marigolds and no it never came down, we just changed the flowers)I got last year (on major markdown) was much the same as target offered in 2008. hmmm.  I didn’t take advantage of many of the spooky statues and busts in 2008 which I should have, and now when I see something I know will work I just don’t wait.

Now 2009…I think I was sick for our party that year…like horrible flu sick and we had to call it off. It was very sorrowful, especially since I cook for about a week and we clean from top to bottom and the whole house is spookified. 2009, though was very good with the skelanimals

and many good gravestones and statuary crowned skulls. I’m not a big fan of the candy colored monster stuff—I like mine in black, grey, white, red—not bright blue or a sweet (not rotting) green. Guess I’m a purist that way. I’d have to say though that Target 2009 was pretty good. Nice pictures on that link. I don’t mind cute and spooky but I’m kinda specific about it.

2010 was not a great year for us. The party was set up for many people to attend, after all it was our 10 year anniversary, and we didn’t get that. At least the folks we did get were wonderful and we did have a great time. There was just too much left over food.

Now this year—I just find it lacking. Some good décor you’ll see pics of this weekend but there just doesn’t seem to be a variety. You’d think after collecting Halloween gear for years I’d be full but not so much. Moved too much, lost some over time and we’re in the business of building a haunted house here!

Maybe it’s because I remember Halloween at Targets in SF and Chicago and the Fayetteville one doesn’t get all the cool stuff that cities do. Thank god for the Spirit Store. We’ll be picking up a fog machine there this weekend. And maybe some more outdoor props.
