December 15 – 5 Minutes

Imagine you will completely lose your memory of 2010 in five minutes. Set an alarm for five minutes and capture the things you most want to remember about 2010.

Bean singing

Bean singing solos.

Disney world. Bean meeting Ariel and singing for her. Bean meeting Mulan and singing for her. Her face when she saw Disney world for the first time. James when he got his picture taken with Mary Poppins.

James’ face when he opened his computer.

Laps full of kitties.

Being married for 10 years.

Starting my job. The first time a teacher said “I am so glad you are here, you have helped us so much.”

The time one of my bosses said “We’re really lucky to have you.”

Did I mention Bean singing? It brings tears to your eyes.

The day Bean found out she got into GT (Gifted and Talented)

My birthday dinner with J.

Getting to see and talk to my very first boyfriend and finding out I still have a spot in my heart for him and that I like that memory very much.

New music—like Meaghan Smith, Florence and the Machine, Elizabeth and the Catapult that just makes me really happy.

All of us standing around as we held Haru after she came home from 5 days lost. She was dirty and smelly and we were all crying and petting her. I loved my family so much right then I didn’t think I’d contain it. Seeing tears in my husband’s eyes further further and even further solidified the knowledge that I made one of the best decisions of my life when I married him.

How J has stuck by me when I dislocated my ankle, even lifting me in and out of the bathtub, when I couldn’t walk but needed a bath so badly to feel human. How he never made me feel ugly or horrible when I already felt like I’d lost so much dignity.

How much I laugh with my family.

How I can survive hurt feelings and not let them overwhelm me.

J dressed like my flying monkey with me as Elphalba. Giving away candy in front of our spooky house with the Bean. All of us happy. All of us in costume, late into the night.

Our house, how it looks on Halloween night.
