Dancing a Circle

Twilight

is walking the cemetery with me

on my heels as

I try to stave off the rest my friends

have taken.

Behind the well mannered trees

where no one can see

I dance, earphones playing songs

I don’t admit and laugh.

I dance with them in the graveyard

they don’t mind.

I feel my muscles stretch, my

lungs fill and

understand they did once.

I’ll be there one day.

Today I’m here.

I’ll be dancing.

This was a harder pull tonight/today. I was tired and it was a long day and I was a bit down. I tried to think of Julie’s encouragement what Morgan Dragonwillow wrote on the Octpowrimo page about connecting today and just grabbed the most recent feeling. I’m disconnected from myself lately–connected to my kidlet and husband but not to myself. I think this challenge is already helping with that.

  1. I love cemeteries. Seriously love them. And isn’t it curious that we both wrote of death in our connection poems?

I felt completely discombobulated when I was done writing and rewriting and finally just threw the poem onto the page.

    I love this stanza:

    Twilight

    on my heels as

I try to stave off the rest my friends

    have taken.

    Brava!
